Abstract

Public transportation in mid-sized cities, such as Formosa, GO, Brazil, faces reliability challenges that directly impact citizens' daily routines. The absence of real-time information on vehicle location creates uncertainty, delays, and user dissatisfaction, discouraging the use of the service. This paper presents the development of the Via Formosa system, a monitoring platform designed to modernize local public transport management. The solution, conceived from a literature review and requirement gathering with public agents, employs a modular architecture. An embedded system, comprising an Arduino microcontroller and a GPS/GPRS module (SIM808), transmits geolocation data via the TCP/IP protocol. The backend, developed in Java with the Spring Boot framework and a PostgreSQL database with the PostGIS extension, processes and stores this information, using the Haversine formula to optimize data logging. The user interface, built in Angular, provides an interactive map for real-time fleet visualization and an administrative dashboard for operational management. Validation tests demonstrated high accuracy (error less than 5 meters) and low latency (1.2 seconds), leading to a reduction of up to 30% in average passenger waiting times and a 45% increase in trip predictability. The project concludes that adopting accessible technologies is feasible and generates positive impacts on service quality and urban governance.
