Abstract

Abstract: Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is widely used in dermatofunctional physiotherapy, particularly in the postoperative treatment of cosmetic surgeries. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of MLD in the recovery of patients undergoing procedures such as liposuction and abdominoplasty, emphasizing its physiological effects and clinical benefits. MLD promotes the reabsorption of interstitial fluids, reduces edema and inflammation, and favors lymphatic return and tissue oxygenation. It was observed that the technique contributes to the prevention of complications such as fibrosis and seromas, providing better aesthetic and functional results. However, there is still a lack of standardization regarding the frequency, intensity, and timing of session initiation, highlighting the need for further clinical research. In conclusion, manual lymphatic drainage is an effective and safe method when applied by trained professionals, integrating a comprehensive physiotherapeutic approach focused on rehabilitation and well-being in the postoperative period of cosmetic surgeries.
